(KSL News) Utah Department of Transportation snowplows are preparing to head out tonight in expectation of one of the first significant storms of the season.

In all, there are more than 500 snowplows statewide, with more than enough drivers for each. During the winter, they'll use about a quarter-million tons of salt to keep roads clear.

Tonight, they'll be ready when the snow begins to fall.

"These guys get so excited for this one. This is the big one, first one that come in. Everyone is so anxious to go. Everyone is on pins and needles. Who gets to go first? What's the shifts going to be like?" said UDOT station supervisor Tyson Vorwaller.

The storm should hit right in the middle of 2008 Winter Preparedness Week, when officials remind people to drive slowly in storms and leave plenty of space between other drivers.
