TOOELE — A woman who prosecutors say set her house on fire and then attacked two police officers is facing multiple charges.

Elizabeth Anne Ackman, 30, of Tooele, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with aggravated arson, a first-degree felony; and two counts of assault on a police officer, a class A misdemeanor.

On May 10, Ackman set the mattress in her basement on fire while her husband, their 1-year-old child and Ackman’s grandparents were still in the house, according to charging documents.

“I observed the home was engulfed in flames,” a responding officer wrote in a police affidavit.

After the officer arrived on scene, Ackman tried to get into the back of his patrol car, according to the charges.

“Ms. Ackman was advising she was the one who ‘did it.’ I approached Ms. Ackman and began attempting to speak with her. I asked Ms. Ackman what had happened and she advised if I didn’t take her away she was going to attack me,” the officer wrote in the affidavit.

Ackman then attempted to punch the officer with a closed fist, forcing the officer to knock her to the ground and hold her until another officer could place her in handcuffs, the charges state.

Officers had Ackman checked at a local hospital before taking her to jail. While at the hospital, she kicked an officer while attempting to lunge at a doctor, the charges state.
