SALT LAKE CITY — Days after University of Utah law professor Chris Peterson announced Karina Brown will join him on the ticket for Saturday's Democratic state convention, gubernatorial candidates Zachary Moses and Nikki Ray Pino named their picks as well.
Moses' lieutenant governor pick will be Nathan Kizerian, the founder of Utah Satire, and Pino opted for his own father, Nikki Ray Pino Sr.
In a news release, Moses said the "universe kept bringing Nathan and I together" after the two met at the Utah Capitol.
He touted Kizerian as a social media maven and a fearless advocate for medical marijuana and expanded health care access.
Pino, meanwhile, picked his Republican father in an attempt to bridge partisan divides.
"Through our ideology, we can help bridge the gap between generations," Pino said in an announcement video. "By bringing people together to a common ground, we can fix the problems that we all face."
Neil Hansen, Ryan D. Jackson and Archie A. Williams III are the other Democrats in the race. The candidates on Saturday will vie for a spot on the June primary ballot in a virtual convention.
The general election will pit the primary winner against one of a crowded field of Republican candidates to succeed Gov. Gary Herbert.
