Editor’s note: This article is part of a series where we thank the Unexpected Heroes who put themselves at risk to keep Utah running during the coronavirus pandemic. Every Monday, we will highlight a different industry, and we'll ask you to write in to thank the workers in that industry for their service. During the week, we'll profile someone who works in that industry. Every Friday, we will publish some of your submissions and send the messages of thanks to those in the field.

SALT LAKE CITY — It's safe to say that before March, many of us took many of the workers at Utah's grocery stores for granted.

Now we see them and often feel a surge of gratitude, as they, sometimes clad in masks and gloves, dutifully and cheerfully help Utahns navigate the coronavirus pandemic by helping them get essential food, provisions and snacks.

This week, we're thanking Utah's Unexpected Heroes in our grocery stores: From stockers and clerks, to cashiers and those who wipe down your carts, to those who retrieve those same carts from the parking lots, these heroes work tirelessly to make sure you have the essentials you need to keep living your life.

You can help us thank the people who stock the shelves, run the cash registers, help you when the self-checkout tells you there's an "unexpected item in the baggage area," and who smile and tell you to "Have a nice day!"

Fill out the form below to let your neighbors who run Utah's grocery stores know how much you appreciate their hard work.

Hundreds of you responded last week when we asked you to thank the Unexpected Heroes in health care, and we expect just as many of you will reach out this week.

By taking five minutes to fill out this form, you can help those who are running our community and improve your own situation while doing it. Research shows that regularly practicing gratitude leads to a ton of positive outcomes, including joy, satisfaction and overall mental wellness.
