SALT LAKE CITY — Here are the latest coronavirus-related updates from Utah and around the world.
The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah increased to 112, state health officials confirmed on Friday.
Also on Friday, a Hill Air Force Base member tested positive for the virus, base officials confirmed.
Confusion arose over Utah health orders mandating no gatherings over 10 people in Salt Lake and Utah counties on Thursday evening.
The orders made such gatherings a possible misdemeanor. Salt Lake police said they are asking people to voluntarily comply, and Utah County attorney David Leavitt said he would not prosecute those gatherings.
Shortly after the orders were issued, Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson said the state had issued an order outlawing gatherings of more than 10 people, so the county's directive merely mirrored the state's and was not an extra restriction.
Gov. Gary Herbert took to Twitter to say he urged both counties to repeal the orders, but said he urged Utahns to act with common sense and rationality in the face of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
At a press conference Friday, Herbert acknowledged that the state's communication may not have been as clear as needed. He said the state is revising its law regarding gatherings of 10 or more people so that it will provide clarity to Utahns and public health officials.
