UPDATE: The woman who died in the fire has been identified as Jamie Allen, 60, according to a tweet from the Roy City Police Department.
ROY — Firefighters recovered the body of woman who apparently died early Sunday morning in a house fire in Roy. About 5 a.m., crews responded to the home at 2835 W. 4975 South and found it fully engulfed in flames, Roy Fire Capt. Matthew Heslop said.
Crews quickly extinguished the fire, but the home was unstable and unsafe to enter. They spent several hours shoring up the house so it wouldn’t collapse before they could go in and search for the homeowner, according to Heslop.
Firefighters found the woman, as well as a cat, deceased in the home. Her name was not immediately released pending notification of relatives.
The state fire marshal was also on scene to investigate the cause of the fire. Roy Fire Deputy Chief Leroy Gleichmann said it would take some time before a cause is determined.
The estimated damage was at least $200,000, as the home was a complete loss, Gleichmann said.
