WEST JORDAN — Police are asking for the public’s help in gathering information about a vehicle that crashed into a sign in a median, causing the sign to ricochet into a patrol car’s windshield.
A dashcam video posted to the West Jordan Police Department Facebook page shows the dramatic moment that occurred Tuesday night around 9 p.m., in which the sign breaks off from the ground and ricochets up, shattering the car’s windshield.
The sign missed the officer who was in the car, and he is OK, police said.
The officer was driving north on Redwood Road, waiting to turn left onto 7800 South. The vehicle, a red or maroon Chrysler Town and Country van, was heading the opposite direction and collided with the sign, according to the Facebook post.
The driver of the vehicle continued driving south on Redwood Road after hitting the sign, police said.
Police believe the van was made sometime between 2001 and 2009. They are asking for help locating the van and identifying the van or its driver.
