HARVEY WEINSTEIN’S LAWYERS SEEK CHANGE OF VENUE

NEW YORK (AP) — Harvey Weinstein lives and works in New York City. But now, his attorneys say they don’t want him tried in the Big Apple. His legal camp has asked an appeals court to move the rape case out of New York. The lawyers say the publicity, protests and media attention make it impossible for Weinstein to get a fair trial. Prosecutors disagree, saying jury selection so far has shown there are enough people in the area who can be approved to be jurors. And they say, courtroom protests wouldn’t affect jurors — because New Yorkers are used to seeing protests in the sprawling metropolis. Weinstein’s attorneys made a similar change-of-venue request last fall — and it was rejected.

MORE JURORS PICKED FOR WEINSTEIN TRIAL

NEW YORK (AP) — Even as Harvey Weinstein’s legal team seeks to get his rape trial moved out of New York City, the effort to seat a jury in the case continues. Going into today’s court action, seven jurors — four men and three women — had been selected to hear the case. They were culled from about 145 potential jurors who remained in the jury pool after the first round of questioning.

GIGI HADID OUSTED FROM WEINSTEIN JURY POOL

NEW YORK (AP) — Between Harvey Weinstein and the people who may testify against him, there will be plenty to gawk at in the New York City courthouse hosting the trial. And apparently, the judge and both sides agree there’s no sense in having someone in the jury box to gawk at. And that means supermodel Gigi Hadid won’t be on the Weinstein jury. She had gotten through a first round of questioning. But the attorneys for both sides have decided to dismiss her. They fear she might be a distraction.

LORI LAUGHLIN, MOSSIMO GIANNULLI GET DOCS

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Attorneys for Lori Laughlin had complained that prosecutors handling the college admissions cheating case had been withholding information that could work in her favor. Now, the prosecution has, in effect, said, “take that.” They have, according to the Los Angeles Times, released hundreds of pages of emails, phone call transcripts and academic records. Laughlin and her fashion designer husband Mossimo Giannulli are accused of paying $500,000 to get their two daughters into the University of Southern California in the guise of crew team members.
