WEST VALLEY CITY — Officers were dispatched to a West Valley City neighborhood early Sunday morning after a family dispute turned violent.
Salt Lake County Jail records show Angelo James Gaona, 21, was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of aggravated assault.
Officers were dispatched to 5189 W. Crownpointe Drive at 7:10 a.m., according to West Valley City Police Lt. Amy Maurer. She said Gaona stabbed another man in the abdomen. The victim, believed to be in his late-50s or early-60s, was transported to the hospital in serious condition, but the injuries are no longer considered to be life-threatening, she added.
Officials report there were four people at the home when the stabbing occurred. The incident is under investigation, but investigators are considering that mental illness may have been a factor.
Gaona was previously charged with two counts of possession of a restricted dangerous weapon, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession with attent to distribute in August. Those charges were later dropped in October, court records show.
