MILLCREEK — A Roosevelt man was charged Friday with kidnapping a woman in Salt Lake County and beating and sexually abusing her over several miles.
Branden Lee Vincent, 52, is charged in 3rd District Court with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault, first-degree felonies; aggravated assault resulting in serious injury, a second-degree felony; three counts of aggravated assault and witness tampering, third-degree felonies; and two counts of being a restricted person in possession of a weapon, a class A misdemeanor.
On April 25, a woman in her 40s, who is known to Vincent, went to a friend's house with him but later left because she "did not like the way Vincent was treating her," according to charging documents.
But as the woman was walking away, Vincent drove up to her, "forced her into his vehicle, began driving toward Roosevelt and Vincent repeatedly struck her with a horsewhip, a cowboy boot and his fists," the charges state.
At Daniel's Summit, he again abused her and threatened her at gunpoint, and then "began driving back toward Salt Lake City (as he) continued to punch her, strangle her with his hands, whipped her and struck her with 'a bat with these little nails in it. Vincent attempted to throw (her) out of the moving vehicle 'when semis were driving by,'" according to the charges.
Vincent also told the woman that if she reported the incident to the police, he would kill her and members of her family, police say.
"You're going to die tonight, you're never going to see your kids again," he told her, according to the charging documents.
Vincent took the woman to a friend's residence near where the ordeal began. After he fell asleep, the woman escaped and contacted the police. He was arrested later that day.
