HURRICANE — One person is dead, and another is in critical condition, on Friday after a crash involving three vehicles and a motorcycle on state Route 59 southeast of Hurricane.

Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cam Roden said the accident occurred near mile marker 14 when a vehicle traveling eastbound "attempted an improper pass, which caused a collision between three vehicles and a motorcycle."

Roden said the person who died was initially airlifted from the scene.

"That was a vehicle that ended up rolling during the collision and that driver has passed away at the hospital," Roden said.

In total, four people were transported from the scene, with two who had non-life-threatening injuries. Roden added that the motorcyclist was the one critically injured in the crash.

The eastbound lane is currently closed, with traffic being diverted using the westbound lane, Roden said.
