PAYSON — A 23-year-old man died after his car crashed into a utility pole in Payson late Thursday night, police said.

The crash occurred about 11:59 p.m. Thursday near 800 S. Main Street in Payson, according to a news release from the Payson Police Department.

Police responded to the area and found two 23-year-old men in the car, which had crashed into a utility pole and was severely damaged, police said. The driver had to be extricated from the car. He was transported to Mountain View Hospital in Payson and later died from his injuries, police said.

Police did not say whether the passenger in the car had any injuries. Neither man was identified Friday morning because police were still notifying family members.

Speed is suspected to be a possible factor in the crash, but it does not appear that impairment was a factor, police said.
