Curry out at least 3 months following hand surgery
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Stephen Curry will be sidelined until at least February.
The Golden State Warriors have announced that the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player will miss at least three months after having surgery Friday on his broken left hand.
Curry broke his non-shooting hand in the third quarter of Wednesday’s 121-110 home loss to the Suns. He was driving to the basket when he lost his balance and landed on his hands while crashing to the floor. Suns forward Aron Baynes landed on Curry’s left hand.

Celtics eke out win over Knicks
UNDATED (AP) _ The Boston Celtics had an unexpected struggle with the New York Knicks before posting their fourth straight victory since a season-opening loss to the 76ers.
Jayson Tatum capped his 24-point performance by hitting a turnaround jumper with 1.3 seconds remaining to give the Celtics a 104-102 triumph over the Knicks. Kemba Walker scored 23 of his 33 points in the second half as Boston won a game that featured 24 lead changes and 10 ties.
Marcus Morris had a team-high 29 points for New York, including a game-tying 3-pointer with 4.7 seconds to play.

_ Patty Mills poured in 31 points off the bench and the Spurs bounced back from their first loss of the season by drubbing the Warriors, 127-110 in San Francisco. LaMarcus Aldridge added 12 of his 22 points while San Antonio was outscoring Golden State 40-31 in the third quarter to take an 11-point lead. D'Angelo Russell led the 1-4 Warriors with 30 points.
_ The Lakers are 4-1 after LeBron James had a season-high 39 points with 16 assists and 12 rebounds in a 119-110 overtime win against the Mavericks. Anthony Davis started overtime with back-to-back dunks after Danny Green's buzzer-beating 3-pointer in regulation. Luka Doncic (DAHN’-chihch) finished with 31 points, 13 rebounds and a career-high 15 assists, the last on Dorian Finney-Smith's go-ahead 3-pointer in the final minute of regulation.
_ The Bucks rolled to a 123-91 win at Orlando as Giannis Antetokounmpo (YAH’-nihs an-teh-toh-KOON’-poh) contributed 29 points and 14 rebounds. Eric Bledsoe added 18 points, six rebounds and six assists for Milwaukee, which shot 17-for-47 from 3-point range. The Magic led 20-7 until the Bucks went on a 40-9 run over an 11-minute stretch.
_ Taurean Prince had 27 points and 12 rebounds as the Nets outscored the Rockets, 123-116. Caris LeVert scored 25 points and helped Brooklyn erase a 15-point, first-half deficit. James Harden finished with 36 points and eight assists, but he missed 14 of his 16 3-point attempts while Houston was going 12-for-48 from beyond the arc.
_ The Pacers won their second straight since an 0-3 start as Malcolm Brogdon delivered 25 points, eight rebounds and six assists in a 102-95 verdict over the Cavaliers. Jeremy Lamb added 21 points and 10 rebounds, and Domantas Sabonis had 18 points and 17 rebounds. Kevin Love led Cleveland with 22 points and 17 boards.
_ Harrison Barnes scored on an offensive rebound with 2.9 seconds to give the Kings their first win of the season, 102-101 over the Jazz. De’Aaron Fox scored 25 points, Buddy Hield (heeld) had 18 and Bogdan Bogdanovic added 14 to help Sacramento end their longest season-opening losing streak in nearly 30 years.
_ Zach LaVine (lah-VEEN’) scored 26 points and Otto Porter Jr. added 22 as the Bulls held off the Pistons, 112-106. LaVine put Chicago ahead for good with back-to-back 3-pointers and added four free throws in the final 11.5 seconds. Former Bull Derrick Rose 23 points and seven assists in Detroit’s fourth loss in five games.

Eight straight wins for Isles
UNDATED (AP) _ The New York Islanders have extended their longest winning streak since January 1990 by downing the club that posted the NHL’s best record last season.
Thomas Greiss (grys) stopped 33 shots and Anders Lee had a goal and two assists as the Isles picked up their NHL season-high eighth straight win, 5-2 over the Lightning. New York was clinging to a 2-1 lead in the third period until Josh Bailey and Lee scored 1:46 apart.
Bailey, Mat Barzal and Derick Brassard each had a goal and an assist for the Islanders, whose winning streak follows a 1-3 start.
Yanni Gourde (YAH’-nee gohrd) and Ryan McDonagh scored for the Lightning, who dropped to 6-5-2 after being 9-3-1 through 13 games last season.
Elsewhere on NHL ice:
_ Jakub Vrana (vuh-RAH’-nah) scored twice while the Capitals erupted for four goals in the first 11 minutes of a 6-1 thumping of the Sabres. Tom Wilson finished with a goal and two assists in Washington’s seventh victory in eight games. Buffalo remains tied with Boston for the Atlantic Division lead after suffering back-to-back losses for the first time this season.
_ David Perron (peh-RAHN’) scored eight seconds into overtime to complete the Blues’ 4-3 comeback over the Blue Jackets. St. Louis trailed 3-1 in the second period until Brayden Schenn scored a power-play goal and Oskar Sundqvist tallied just 16 seconds later to tie it. Jordan Binnington made 27 saves as the defending champs won their third in a row.
_ Sebastian Aho (AH’-hoh) and defensemen Dougie Hamilton and Jaccob Slavin (SLAY’-vihn) each had three points as the Hurricanes handed the Red Wings their ninth loss in 10 games, 7-3. Aho scored twice and had an assist, all while Carolina collected four goals in the second period. Hamilton and Slavin each had three assists in the Canes’ third consecutive win.
_ Roope Hintz scored twice, including a short-handed goal in the second period of the Stars’ 2-1 victory against the Avalanche. Anton Khudobin (koo-DOH’-bihn) turned back 38 shots, including one with a second remaining to close out the Stars’ fifth win in six games since a 1-7-1 start. Nathan MacKinnon scored a second-period goal to give him at least a point in all 13 Colorado games this season.
_ Sean Couturier (koo-TOOR’-ee-ay) had a goal and an assist before providing the lone shootout score in the Flyers’ 4-3 victory at New Jersey. Philadelphia trailed 3-2 until Joel Farabee notched his first NHL goal midway through the third period. Wayne Simmonds and Oskar Lindblom also scored as the Flyers ended a two-game skid and won for the fourth time in six contests.
_ The Jets pulled out a 3-2 win at San Jose behind Connor Hellebuyck’s (HEH’-leh-buhks) 51-save performance. Nikolaj Ehlers (NIH’-koh-ly EE’-lurz) scored the tiebreaking goal with 1:24 left, sending the Sharks to their fourth straight loss.
_ The Ducks picked up a 2-1 win over the Canucks on Ryan Getzlaf’s (GETS’-lafs) goal 2 ½ minutes into overtime. Jakob Silfverberg also scored and John Gibson turned back 39 shots, blanking Vancouver until Adam Gaudette beat him with 6:18 left in regulation.

Devils get netminding help
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) _ The Devils have acquired goaltender Louis Domingue (doh-MIHNG’) from the Lightning for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2021 NHL draft.
Domingue has been playing for Syracuse of the AHL this season, recording a 3.81 goals-against average in three games. But he was 21-5-0 in 26 games with Tampa Bay last season, recording a .908 save percentage and 2.88 goals-against average.

49ers LB Alexander out for rest of season
UNDATED (AP) _ The San Francisco 49ers will spend the remainder of the season without a key piece of their defense.
Niners linebacker Kwon Alexander is going on injured reserve after tearing his pectoral muscle during Thursday’s victory at Arizona. Alexander has taken up a leadership role on a defensive unit that ranks first in the NFC in points allowed. San Francisco is one of the NFL’s two unbeaten teams this season.
Alexander is in his first season with the 49ers after being signed as a free agent in March.
Rookie Dre Geenlaw is expected to take Alexander's spot on the nickel defense .

_ The Broncos have placed quarterback Joe Flacco on injured reserve and promoted rookie QB Brett Rypien (RIH’-pehn) from their practice squad to back up new starter Brandon Allen. Coach Vic Fangio says the herniated disk in Flacco's neck requires six weeks of rest and it would have taken another two weeks to get the veteran QB back up to speed.
_ Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (mah-HOHMZ’) is questionable against the Vikings, raising the possibility the league MVP could return after missing just one game to a dislocated kneecap. Mahomes has practiced on a limited basis throughout the week, just as he did last week.
_ Wide receiver Josh Gordon has joined the Seahawks a day after being released off injured reserve by the Patriots. Gordon was among New England's leading receivers this season, with 20 catches for 287 yards and a touchdown through six games.
_ Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson plans to play for the first time in two months when Philadelphia hosts the Bears on Sunday. Jackson practiced this week on a limited basis and is officially listed as questionable.
_ Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is seeking another opinion on his injured left foot. Newton has missed Carolina's last five games and is not expected to play Sunday against the Titans.
_ Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson is wearing a clear visor on his helmet to protect his injured left eye. Watson donned the visor at practice Friday in London, where the 5-3 Texans are preparing to play 4-4 Jacksonville at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
_ Rookie Dwayne Haskins will make his first NFL start for the Redskins on Sunday when they visit the Buffalo Bills. Interim coach Bill Callahan says the quarterback change comes with regular starter Case Keenum still in concussion protocol.

Mets pick Beltrán
UNDATED (AP) _ The New York Mets have found a manager, and it’s one of their former players.
A person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press the Mets have decided to hire Carlos Beltrán as the replacement for skipper Mickey Callaway, who was let go after going 163-161 in two seasons as skipper.
Beltrán played for the Mets from 2005 to 2011 and was a nine-time All-Star during his 20 major league seasons. He spent last season as an adviser to Yankees general manager Brian Cashman before accepting his first big league managerial job.

_ The Nationals have declined a $4 million mutual option for 2020 on backup first baseman Matt Adams, who instead gets a $1 million buyout and becomes a free agent. The 31-year-old hit .226 with 20 homers and 56 RBIs in 111 games during the regular season.
_ The Marlins have declined their $16 million option on infielder Starlin Castro for 2020. They'll instead pay him a $1 million buyout, allowing him to become a free agent.
_ The Washington Nationals will be honored Monday at the White House, five days after winning their first World Series. The city will hold a parade for the champions on Saturday.

Hamlin has torn labrum
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) _ NASCAR Cup contender Denny Hamlin says he has a torn labrum in his left shoulder that will require offseason surgery.
Hamlin said Friday he has had shoulder issues for years, and really doesn't know what caused them. He said it hasn't affected his driving and wasn't aggravated last weekend when he got horse-collared and pulled to the ground by a member of Joey Logano's crew in a scuffle after the Martinsville race.
Hamlin currently is second in the Cup standings with two races remaining to qualify for the title-clinching finale at Homestead.
He says he’ll be ready for the Daytona 500 next February.
PGA TOUR CHAMPIONS-QQQ CHAMPIONSHIP

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — Miguel Angel Jiménez birdied the final two holes for a 6-under 66 and a share of the first-round lead in the Invesco QQQ Championship.
The 55-year-old Spaniard had eight birdies and two bogeys in joining Billy Mayfair and Woody Austin atop the leaderboard at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
It’s the second of three events in the PGA Tour Champions' Charles Schwab Cup playoffs. Jiménez has two victories this season and is 10th in the season standings, with the top 36 advancing to the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship next week at Phoenix Country Club.
LPGA-SWINGING SKIRTS
Defending champ Korda leads at LPGA Swinging Skirts
TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — Defending champion Nelly Korda shot a 7-under 65 to take a three-stroke lead after Saturday's third round of the LPGA Swinging Skirts.
Korda, who started the third round one stroke back of overnight leader Mi Jung Hur, carded seven birdies at the par-72 Miramar Golf Country Club in Taiwan to finish at 18-under 198, three strokes ahead of Minjee Lee, who shot a 67.
Lee briefly moved into a tie with Korda after back-to-back birdies on the 11th and 12th. But Korda quickly regained the lead with a birdie of her own on the par-5 12th.
Caroline Masson shot 66 and was in third place, four strokes behind.
Jin Young Ko, the No. 1-ranked player in the world, withdrew during the third round. She was 2 over after 10 holes and 5 over on the tournament. No immediate reason was given for her withdrawal.
RUGBY WORLD CUP FINAL
South Africa beats England 32-12, wins 3rd World Cup title
YOKOHAMA, Japan (AP) — South Africa won the Rugby World Cup for a record-tying third time on Saturday, using its power at the set piece to seize control before scoring two clinical late tries through its wingers in a 32-12 victory over England.
It is three from three in finals for the Springboks, after previous wins in 1995 and 2007, and they have finally scored a try in a title match, too.
The Springboks became the first team to lose a game and rebound to win the World Cup, having lost to two-time defending champion New Zealand in the group stage last month.
