UNDATED (AP) — Herm Edwards has Arizona State on track for bowl eligibility while Chip Kelly has been off to a disappointing start at UCLA. That wasn't expected to be the case when both were hired two years ago. Of the five Pac-12 coaches in their second season, Mario Cristobal is off to the best start as the Ducks lead the North Division after last week's win at Washington.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Southern California running back Kenan Christon showed he can provide big plays, scoring on touchdowns runs of 55 and 30 yards in a memorable debut against Arizona. Now the freshman with elite speed will have to show he can handle a bigger role. Christon is expected to start for the Trojans at Colorado on Friday because of a spate of injuries at the position.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — New Cal women's basketball coach Charmin Smith has a passion outside of basketball. The first-time head coach takes classes in Muay Thai boxing. Smith says the technique and the skill it takes to learn the art of Muay Thai has made her a better basketball coach.

UNDATED (AP) — Michigan State's Cassius Winston is a unanimous selection on The Associated Press preseason All-America team after opting to return to school. He is joined by Marquette's Markus Howard, Louisville's Jordan Nwora, Seton Hall's Myles Powell and Memphis freshman James Wiseman.
