OGDEN — The body of a woman found inside an abandoned storage shed in Ogden was wrapped in plastic and other items, according to a search warrant affidavit.

On Sept. 5, a unit at Stock-n-Lock Self Storage, 2868 Grant Ave. was being cleared out because of nonpayment by the tenant when human remains were found.

“They found what appears to be a partially mummified human body wrapped in cloth, rope or twine, wire, plastic, and/or other materials,” according to a search warrant filed in 2nd District Court.

Using fingerprints, investigators were able to identify the badly decomposed body as 41-year-old Alice Ann Valdez. Ogden Police Lt. Brian Eynon said the body was believed to have been in the shed for a long time.

According to court records, Valdez was a transient with a lengthy history of misdemeanor crimes, mostly involving trespassing and drug use.

She has not had any charges or arrests in Utah since 2017.

As of Wednesday, a cause of death had not been determined. The case was being treated by police as a “suspicious death,” Eynon said.

Detectives have been able to track down persons of interest since the discovery of Valdez’s body, he said. But those interviews led police to seek others to interview, Eynon said, and the case was still considered very active.
