SALT LAKE CITY — Patients, guardians and pharmacists will be expected to pay into Utah’s medical marijuana program by way of fees charged for registration, background checks and prescription cards.
The proposed fees intend to bring in the revenue necessary to sustain the program, with more than $1.8 million estimated in fiscal year 2020 and $2.2 million in 2021.
Pharmacy license fees range from $50,000 to $69,500 depending on if it is urban, rural or home delivery. Patient fees start with $15 initial for a cannabis card plus a $5 patient registration renewal fee a month.
The proposed fees include, but are not limited to: pharmacy application and licensing fees, pharmacy transaction fees, patient card fees, qualified medical provider registration fees, and courier application and licensing fees.
The Utah Department of Health will collect public comments on the proposed fees at a public hearing on Tuesday at 1 to 3 p.m. in room 25 at the Cannon Health Building, 288 N. 1460 West, in Salt Lake City.
