WAPELLO, Iowa (AP) — A southeast Iowa board of supervisors has cleared the way for solar power projects to proceed.
The Hawk Eye reports that the Louisa County board on Tuesday approved zoning ordinance and other amendments that will guide construction of a 350,000-panel solar power farm being developed south of Wapello. Authorities say it could generate enough energy to serve 18,000 homes.
Clenera, a Boise, Idaho-based solar facility developing company, and the Central Iowa Power Cooperative announced the project earlier this year. Officials say they expect groundbreaking could begin early next year, with construction completed later in the year.
