SALT LAKE CITY — Three people were charged Friday in connection with an alleged home invasion in Millcreek earlier in the week.
Connor Veach, 24, Serene Al-Abbodi, 21, and Kyle Brady Mehr, 24, were arrested Monday after two shots were fired during the incident and one person was "grazed" by a bullet.
Veach has been charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, and two counts of felony discharge of a firearm, a third-degree felony. Al-Abbodi and Mehr each face one count of aggravated robbery and one count of aggravated burglary, first-degree felonies.
About 7:45 a.m. Monday, police say Al-Abbodi drove Veach, Mehr and a third person to a residence at 4284 S. Normandie Lane to confront a man there about a drug debt, according to charging documents. Al-Abbodi and Veach entered the home through an unlocked door, police said.
The pair found the man they were looking for, and an argument ensued between Veach and the man, charging documents say. Veach produced a handgun, told the man, "I will shoot you," and shot in the direction of the man's feet, according to the charges.
Veach and the man began to physically fight until Mehr, who later told police he had been waiting in the car and went inside when he heard a gunshot, put the man in a chokehold, the charging documents say. The gun "went off again" while Mehr had the man in a chokehold, according to the charges. Mehr told police he let the man go when another man confronted him with a box cutter.
Veach later told police that he had brought the handgun to the residence in the waistband of his pants, according to the charging documents, and said it had gone off twice during the altercation.
Mehr and the fourth person in the car, who has not been charged, told police that they had gone to the residence to get drugs, according to the charges.
Bail was set at $100,000 each for Veach and Mehr and at $150,000 for Al-Abbodi.
Their next court appearances have not been scheduled.
