DRAPER — Police are searching for a male they say allegedly sexually assaulted a woman running on a trail in Draper Thursday night.
A 26-year-old woman was running on the Porter Rockwell Trail about 8:45 p.m. when she was grabbed from behind by a male wearing dark clothing. The man attempted to take off her clothing, but she sprayed him with pepper spray, according to a news release from Draper police.
He fled the area, and police were unable to locate him after an intensive search. Police did not release a more detailed description of the male.
"While this is an isolated and rare event, it is still important to use caution while exercising on the trail system. We want to remind trail users to take the necessary safety precaution. Please be aware of your surroundings, exercise with others, carry a whistle, pepper spray or other similar device," the news release reads.
