SALT LAKE CITY — A single vehicle crash on I-70 turned into the latest significant drug bust for the Utah Highway Patrol.

Troopers responded to a crash on Sept. 1 involving a car that had drifted off the road to the left, and then rolled multiple times when the driver overcorrected, according to an Emery County Jail report.

When troopers arrived, a woman was still trapped inside the car, but a man seemed to be busy collecting items off the ground and putting them back into his luggage, despite being injured, the report states.

In total, 10 pounds of meth, 3 kilos of heroin, a bottle of THC edibles, personal use heroin, a pre-rolled marijuana joint, an open container of liquor, and a loaded handgun were located during the investigation.

“A warrant was obtained to search the luggage bags of the driver, and 11 more suspicious packages were located. In total, 10 pounds of meth, 3 kilos of heroin, a bottle of THC edibles, personal use heroin, a pre-rolled marijuana joint, an open container of liquor, and a loaded handgun were located during the investigation,” according to the report.

The driver, Michael Vincent Regno, Jr., 28, was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries. He told investigators that he was delivering the drugs to Philadelphia, the report states.

Regno was released from the hospital Tuesday and booked into jail for investigation of several counts of drug distribution, drug possession and DUI.
