OREM — A Spanish Fork man faces criminal charges after police say he tried to orchestrate a robbery by sending his friend, his girlfriend and his girlfriend’s 2-year-old child to rob a drug dealer.
“Once all the parties showed up for the drug deal, things went predictably south in a hurry,” prosecutors noted in the charging documents.
On Aug. 29, Cameron William Todhunter, 18, “orchestrated a scheme to rob a fellow drug dealer of his drugs at a local apartment complex parking garage,” the charges state.
Police say Todhunter had robbed the same drug dealer previously. So this time, he had his girlfriend drive her car to meet the dealer, with another man in the passenger seat with a gun that Todhunter had given him, already drawn, the charges state.
The girlfriend’s 2-year-old child was also in the back seat, according to court documents.
Todhunter used his girlfriend’s Snapchat account “to lure the drug dealing ‘victim’ into the ‘buy’ location,” the charges state. The two sides met about 4:30 p.m. in the parking garage at Promenade Place, 875 S. Geneva Road.
Shortly after the two sides met, the man in the passenger seat, without getting out of the car, fired at least three rounds at the other group, which consisted of about six people, police say. Nicholas James Jordan, 23, of Orem, was among those in the drug dealer group, and “returned fire once in an attempt to kill the other shooter,” the charges state.
Amazingly, no one was injured.
Orem police, along with a SWAT team, responded to the area and began rounding up suspects and witnesses for questioning.
“When Jordan’s apartment was searched, police discovered he had ditched his gun along with a bag of over 100 marijuana dab cartridges in another apartment so the police would not find them,” the charges state.
