WEST WEBER — An 8-year-old boy died after he was hit by a car while riding his bike Thursday, officials said.

The accident occurred at 900 N. 4400 West in West Weber around 3:30 p.m., according to Weber County Sheriff’s Lt. Cortney Ryan.

"In that area, there is no sidewalk or gutter or anything like that," Ryan said. "It's just a road, and then the dirt edge of the road, so he was on the edge of the road."

The boy died on scene before emergency workers arrived, Ryan said.

While the cause of the crash was still under investigation Thursday, Ryan said "it looks like it just was a really unfortunate accident."

Authorities don't think speed and impairment were a factor in the crash, and the driver is cooperating with officials, Ryan said.

Additional information was not immediately available.
