MIDVALE — An infant was taken to a hospital in serious condition after a near-drowning incident Friday, police say.

Unified police Lt. Torin Chambers said the infant is a 9-month-old girl and almost drowned in a bathtub.

The incident took place at about 7 p.m. at Staybridge Suites, 747 Blue Vista Lane. Chambers said emergency responders found the girl unconscious and not breathing but were able to revive her.

When the infant was transported to Primary Children’s Hospital, she was crying, Chambers said.

The baby’s parents were at the home but had left the bathroom briefly, according to Chambers. He said this should serve as a warning to parents that these situations can happen in an instant.

"You know, it's early in the investigation,” Chambers said. “We take all of these very seriously and investigate the circumstances surrounding all of them. But, you know, unfortunately, this is something that happens and parents really need to make sure that they're watching children when they're in the bathtub."

Police are investigating the incident but foul play was not suspected, Chambers said.
