EPHRAIM, Sanpete County — The two men who were found dead Monday in a plane crash have been identified by authorities.

Sanpete County sheriff's detective Derick Taysom identified the men Tuesday as John Weber, 63, of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Thomas Bjork, 66, of Orangevale, California.

Their bodies were recovered Monday night after their experimental glider airplane crashed about 4 miles northeast of Ephraim, officials said.

Two people on off-highway vehicles discovered the downed plane at 5:11 p.m. Monday and called authorities.

The glider was involved in a competition this week at the Nephi airport, which involved 65 teams from across the country, according to officials. The aircraft had left Nephi and was heading to an airport near Richfield when the crash happened.

The cause of the crash was unknown, according to Allen Kenitzer, spokesperson with Federal Aviation Administration.
