ST. GEORGE — A Cedar City woman was sentenced Wednesday for DUI after spending 18 days in jail for driving 40 miles in the wrong direction on Interstate 15 in May.
Alicia Monroy, 35, of Cedar City, was sentenced in 5th District Court after pleading guilty to DUI, a Class A misdemeanor and one count of causing an accident involving property damage.
She was sentenced to 18 months of probation, which was set up prior to going to court, and must complete an alcohol/drug evaluation and pay a $1,500 fine.
Judge G. Michael Westfall also ordered Monroy released from custody. She has been incarcerated since her arrest May 28 and was credited for the 18 days she was in custody.
The charges stem from an incident May 28 when police were called out at 3 a.m. on a report that a red Ford Windstar minivan was driving south on the northbound side of I-15, forcing one vehicle off the road and crashing into a barrier in Iron County.
