ELK RIDGE, Utah County — Elk Ridge city officials advised residents to boil their water on Friday after a water main break caused dirt and rocks to enter a pipeline.

The break, which caused dirt and rocks to enter a pipeline, happened at around 9 p.m. on Thursday and, though an official boil order hasn’t been given, officials did say no tests have come back positive for coliform bacteria, according to an Elk Ridge city Facebook post.

David Jean with Elk Ridge City’s public works department told KSL.com that so far, they have had no reports of anyone getting sick from the water. Nonetheless, the boil advisory will likely continue through the weekend because labs won’t be open until Monday. Jean said the soonest they expect to hear back on whether the water has been contaminated will be Tuesday.

He added that the line broke because it was old and worn down, not due to other causes.
