KEARNS — Police have identified a man who was found dead after a Wednesday shooting in Kearns.

John Herman Tonga, 34, of Midvale, died in the shooting, Unified police said Thursday. The incident took place about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of 4800 South and 4700 West, Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray said.

Police also released photos of three persons of interest in connection with the shooting and are asking anyone with information on the men or cars in the photos to call the department at 801-743-7000.

When authorities responded to the incident Wednesday, police found Tonga dead outside a home in the area, as well as blood inside the house, according to Gray.

A short time later, police were notified that a man with a gunshot wound had recently arrived at St. Mark's Taylorsville Emergency Center and was being transported to Intermountain Medical Center, according to Gray.

Police believe the two men were shot inside the home but got outside. Further details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting were not available Thursday morning.

No arrests had been made in connection with the shooting as of Thursday morning, according to Gray. She did not identify the other man who was shot.
