KEARNS — One person is dead and another is in serious condition after a Wednesday morning shooting in Kearns, officials said.

Police responded to reports of a shooting near 4800 South and 4700 West around 7:30 a.m. and found a man dead outside a home in the area. They also found blood inside the house, according to Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray.

Soon after, officers received a call from the St. Mark's Taylorsville Emergency Center informing them that a man had recently arrived with a gunshot wound and was being transported to Intermountain Medical Center, Gray said.

The investigation is still in its early stages, but police believe both men were shot inside the home then managed to get outside.

Officers are unsure if the shooter is at large but took a man into custody after they spotted him leaving the area, Gray explained. Police will question both him and six other people who were in the home at the time of the shooting. None of them have identified the shooter yet, Gray said.

Officers do not yet know the relationship of the people involved or whether either of the men who were shot lived in the home where the shooting occurred. The identity of the man who died is still unknown as well, Gray said.
