WEST HAVEN — A man is in critical condition after he was shot by two deputies when he pulled out a weapon in West Haven late Sunday, officials said.
Police received two calls of shots fired at a home near 4300 South and 4300 West about 11:45 p.m., according to Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Matt Jensen. He said the incident was a domestic dispute between a girlfriend and her boyfriend, now identified as West Haven resident 37-year-old Justin Jessop.
Roy police initially responded to the reports, but a SWAT team was called out when officers spoke to the woman and discovered that Jessop had left and was possibly armed.

Jessop left the residence on foot, but Weber County sheriff deputies made contact with him near 4500 West and 4000 South. Jessop pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the deputies who then shot him multiple times, Jensen said.
Jessop was taken to a local hospital and underwent surgery. He is in stable but critical condition, according to Jensen.
The two deputies are on paid administrative leave while the Weber County Attorney's Office investigates the incident.
Motorists were asked to avoid 4000 South from 4700 West to 3500 West.
