GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Hall of Fame quarterback Bart Starr has died. Starr led Green Bay to six division titles, five NFL championships and wins in the first two Super Bowls. He secured his legacy in the 1967 "Ice Bowl" when he scored on a sneak with 16 seconds left to give Green Bay a 21-17 win over the Dallas Cowboys. Starr was 85. He had been in failing health since suffering two strokes and a heart attack in 2014.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ The Indianapolis 500 has begun on time amid concerns that rain might affect the 103rd running of the showcase race. Pole winner Simon Pagenaud (see-MOHN' PAH'-jeh-noh) and defending race winner Will Power held the top two spots after 45 laps of the 200-lap race. Rookie Colton Herta became the first driver out of the race when he developed a gearbox problem on the fourth lap.

MONACO (AP) — Lewis Hamilton has won the Monaco Grand Prix, his fourth victory of the season and 77th of his career. The five-time Formula One champion dedicated his win to the memory of friend and mentor Niki Lauda, who died on Monday at the age of 70. Sebastian Vettel was second and Valtteri Bottas third.

PARIS (AP) — Venus Williams' 22nd appearance at the French Open didn’t last long. The 2002 runner-up lost her opening match at Roland Garros for the second year in a row, falling to ninth-seeded Elina Svitolina 6-3, 6-3 in 1 hour, 13 minutes. It’s the fourth time in the last seven years that Williams has lost in the first round.

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Mets have activated outfielder Michael Conforto from the seven-day injured list and put him in the starting lineup against the Detroit Tigers. He is playing right field after clearing Major League Baseball's concussion protocol. The injury occurred when he collided with teammate Robinson Cano while chasing a flyball on May 16.
