SALT LAKE CITY — An American Fork man with a history of collecting money to install flooring in homes but never completing the job is facing more felony charges stemming from claims of unfinished work.
Jonathan Glen Pack, 44, was charged Thursday in 4th District Court with engaging in a pattern of unlawful activity, a second-degree felony; two counts of communications fraud, a second-degree felony; and two counts of theft by deception, a third-degree felony.
In July, Pack agreed to install a floor at a Pleasant Grove home and collected $4,700 in payment, according to court records, and in October, he agreed to install a floor at a second Pleasant Grove home and collected $790 as a down payment. But Pack did not do any work on either house, the charges state.
Investigators say Pack has three prior convictions of theft by deception from 2014 to 2018 for promising to install flooring, but then never does any work, according to charging documents.
In April 2018, he collected $2,000 from a Centerville resident, allegedly to pay for flooring materials, according to charges filed in 2nd District Court.
"The victim gave him a cashier's check for that amount. He cashed it. He never came out to install the flooring. He further blocked the victim on his phone as the victim repeatedly, week after week, tried to get him to come out to install the flooring," according to charging documents.
Pack was arrested in that case when Centerville police posed as another potential customer, documents show.
Likewise in June in Murray, a homeowner paid Pack $3,800 for a flooring project, charging documents filed in 3rd District Court state.
Pack's criminal history also includes convictions of theft by receiving stolen property and drug-related convictions dating back to 2015, according to court records.
