WEST VALLEY CITY — A 19-year-old man has been arrested by West Valley police for investigation of numerous rape and child sex abuse charges.
Matautia Kalani Mahina Tarpley-Aina was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on Wednesday for investigation of five counts of rape of a child, three counts of sodomy on a child, three counts of object rape of a child, and six counts of sexual abuse of a child.
The parents of a 12-year-old girl called police when they found Tarpley-Aina in her room, the jail report states. When questioned by police, Tarpley-Aina admitted to at least 10 sexual encounters with the girl, according to the report.
"All of these encounters took place in Salt Lake County between January 1, 2019, and February 17, 2019. There is an active protective order now in place by the minor child's parents," the report states.
