ST. GEORGE — A formal charge was filed Friday against a southern Utah teacher accused of inappropriately touching a student.
Shaun Michael Timothy, 46, of Santa Clara, was charged in 5th District Court with aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.
On Saturday, a 13-year-old girl who attends Tonaquint Intermediate School, 1210 W. Curly Hollow Drive, told St. George police that her teacher, Timothy, touched her buttocks while she was sitting on her desk, according to charging documents.
The girl also told investigators of other moments when Timothy allegedly touched her inappropriately or sat on the girl's lap or the laps of her friends, according to the charges. Detectives interviewed other students who were in the classroom at the time of the alleged incident and they corroborated the girl's story, the charges state.
Timothy was scheduled to make an initial appearance in court Friday afternoon.
According to the school's website, Timothy teaches seventh-grade science.
