UPDATE: Bountiful police said Tuesday the possible kidnapping attempt of the girl turned out to be a false report. - - - - - -
BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful police are looking for a man they believe may have tried to abduct a South Davis Junior High School student Monday afternoon. The girl told police the incident happened around 3:05 p.m. on Monday, when she was walking from South Davis Junior High to the place where her parents pick her up near 350 West and 2600 South, according to Bountiful Police Lt. Dave Edwards.
The girl said a man in his 60s approached her and told her he was there to pick her up for her father, Edwards said in a statement. The girl said the man grabbed her after she wouldn't leave with him but was thwarted by other students who were also walking home from school. The man then released her, the girl told police.
The man is described as a white male in his 60s, who is bald with short, brownish-white stubble on his head and no facial hair. He was wearing a torn white T-shirt, jeans and white shoes.
Davis School District is contacting parents of students to make them aware of the situation and will be adding extra security at South Davis Junior High on Tuesday.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Bountiful Police Department at 801-298-6000.
