SALT LAKE CITY — Troopers say a suspected DUI driver crashed and rolled his truck on Thursday evening, then fled on foot before police could arrive.

The Utah Highway Patrol says the man crashed near the state Route 201 westbound interchange to I-215 northbound at 6:55 p.m. Troopers were initially told the driver had been ejected from the vehicle during the crash, but soon learned he had actually run off, according to UHP.

The man made it to Redwood Road and 2100 South before troopers tracked him down, the UHP said.

"Alcohol impairment is being suspected as the primary cause of the crash, and this being the driver's 4th likely arrest for DUI … it's probably his motivation for fleeing the scene too!" the UHP tweeted.

Troopers also said there were open containers in the man's truck.
