MAGNA — A barn under renovation burned in a large fire early Monday.

Crews from Unified Fire Authority and West Valley City Fire Department were called to a large, older barn fully engulfed near 2900 South and 8000 West about 2 a.m. Firefighters immediately went into a defensive mode, meaning they only sprayed water on the structure from the outside.

The barn was vacant. One firefighter suffered a minor injury after slipping and falling and was taken to a local hospital out of an abundance of caution, according to the Unified Fire Authority.

The cause of the fire was under investigation Monday. It took crews about 30 minutes to bring it under control.
