SALT LAKE CITY — A man wanted in connection with child sex assault was arrested Monday morning, days after prompting a SWAT and officer-involved incident Saturday afternoon, officials said.
Robert Ortega, 36, was located by police Monday morning and taken into custody, Salt Lake police said in an emailed statement.
An officer was on a call Saturday afternoon when he spotted a man outside a Chevron gas station near 3300 South and 1100 East just after 2 p.m., police said.
After learning the man had a warrant out for his arrest in connection with aggravated sexual assault of a child, he tried to take the man into custody. The man was not cooperative, and the officer deployed a Taser and shot his gun, but did not injure the man who fled in a vehicle, police said.

The vehicle was later located at a Millcreek residence near 4100 S. 800 East, and a SWAT team responded and set up a barrier around the home. They soon discovered, however, that the man was not in the home or the back shed.
Officers located and arrested Ortega two days later. Police did not release further details about how he was found.
Ortega was convicted of attempted aggravated sexual abuse of a child in 2011 and sentenced to three years to life at the Utah State Prison, court records show. Another case involving assault on a police officer was dismissed as part of a plea deal.
