MILLCREEK — Authorities are searching for an individual who they said has a warrant for sexual assault and was involved in an officer-involved critical incident Saturday afternoon.
The incident took place shortly before 2 p.m. near 3300 South and 1100 East, according to Salt Lake City Police Sgt. Brandon Shearer.
An officer, who was in a parking lot near the intersection, learned an individual with a warrant for aggravated sexual assault of a child was in the area, Shearer said. When the officer attempted to take that individual into custody "(an) altercation ensued" and at some point "it's believed the officer did fire their weapon," Shearer added.
The individual then fled the area in a vehicle and was later believed to be located in a home in Millcreek.
Unified police officers and a SWAT team set up a containment area around the home near 4125 S. 700 East, but did not locate the individual.
