SOUTH SALT LAKE — Police are asking for the public’s help to locate a man who they say robbed a bank on Friday afternoon.
About 3:47 p.m., a man walked into the Chase Bank at 2610 S. State St., brandished a gun and demanded cash, according to South Salt Lake Police spokesman Gary Keller.
A bank employee complied with the man’s demands, and the man left with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to Keller. The man started walking south on State Street, Keller added.
There were no injuries to bank employees or customers during the robbery, Keller said.
Police later identified the alleged robber as Jerry Robert Petty, 57, according to an email from South Salt Lake Police Sgt. Matthew Oehler. Petty is being considered armed and dangerous, as well as a a fugitive, Oehler added.
The U.S. Marshals Service is also involved in the search for Petty after he failed to return to a halfway house located at 1585 W. 2100 South, according to U.S. Marshal Matthew Harris.
Petty is currently under "federal escape status," Harris said.
Anyone who has any information about Petty is asked to call the South Salt Lake Police Department at 801-840-4000.
