WEST VALLEY CITY — A man was shot and killed late Wednesday in West Valley City during an argument, police said.

The shooting occurred at 3030 W. 3500 South after a woman and two men, all in their 20s, were traveling in the same vehicle and the men began arguing, West Valley police said in a tweet.

One of the men, 26, then hit the other man, 24, over the head with a bottle, according to police. The man who had been hit over the head then shot the other man in the abdomen, police said.

The woman who was driving stopped the car and the alleged shooter fled, according to police.

Police found the shooting victim halfway out of the car and began performing CPR. He was then taken to a hospital where he died. His name was not immediately released.

Wednesday night, officers, along with police K-9s, were searching the area for the suspected shooter. Police said they have information regarding his identity but are "working to verify" his name.

The man was described as Hispanic, 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a slim build. He has a "large distinctive tattoo on the left side" of his forehead, police tweeted.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call West Valley police at 801-840-4000.
