SALT LAKE CITY — A 2-year-old girl is expected to survive after being hit and dragged by a car on Saturday evening, police say.

The crash took place about 7 p.m. near 400 N. 1780 West in Salt Lake City, according to Salt Lake police Lt. Russ Amott.

The girl was playing with some friends when she ran into the street, and a car that was traveling east on 400 North hit her, Amott said. She got dragged a short distance after the collision, he said.

The girl was taken to a hospital and is now in serious, but stable, condition with injuries that were not life-threatening, Amott said.

The girl’s parents were with her when the crash took place, according to Amott. Witnesses told police the high speed of the car, as well as the driver’s surprise from not seeing the girl running into the street, contributed to the crash, he added.
