SPRINGVILLE — A woman from Utah County has died after she lost control and crashed while driving in Hobble Creek Canyon, officials said.

The crash took place just after 2 p.m. Thursday on the Left Fork Hobble Creek Canyon Road near the intersection of Bartholomew Canyon Road, according to an emailed statement from Utah County Sheriff's Office officials.

The woman's SUV rolled once, and she was ejected, officials said. The car also hit a tree, according to Utah County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Spencer Cannon.

The woman had serious head injuries after the crash. She was transported to Utah Valley Hospital in Provo in an ambulance but later died from her injuries, officials said.

She was not wearing a seatbelt, and investigators believe speed may have been a factor in the crash, officials said.

The woman’s name has not been released because officials are still notifying her family members who live out of state and out of the country.

Mapleton Police, as well as Springville Fire and Ambulance, also responded to the crash. A medical helicopter was dispatched to the crash but the woman was taken in an ambulance because the helicopter was too far away, officials said.
