Wildfire updates: Middle Canyon Fire in Tooele County is out

SALT LAKE CITY — The Middle Canyon Fire in Tooele County is out after nine days, officials said. The canyon reopened Friday.

Officials have also determined that the cause of the Tollgate Canyon Fire in Summit County was a vehicle, according to Summit County officials.

Crews continue to fight several wildfires throughout the state.

Goose Creek Fire 80 percent contained

The Goose Creek Fire grew to 127,059 acres (or about 198.5 square miles) Friday and is 80 percent contained, officials report. The lightning-caused fire ignited Thursday, July 26.

Middle Canyon Fire in Tooele County is out

The human-caused Middle Canyon Fire in Tooele County that began Thursday, July 26, is out. Middle Canyon has officially reopened, according to authorities. The exact cause is still under investigation. Those with any information can call the Tooele County Sheriff's Office at 435-882-5600.

Laney Rim Fire in Wyoming is 72 percent contained

The Laney Rim Fire, which is about 25 miles south of Rock Springs, Wyoming, has burned 13,198 acres and is at 72 percent containment, according to officials from the Bureau of Land Management.

Tollgate Canyon Fire in Summit County caused by vehicle

Officials determined that the cause of the Tollgate Canyon Fire was a vehicle, according to Summit County officials. Investigators have tracked down the vehicle responsible for starting the fire. Additional information was not immediately released. The fire started Monday about 2 p.m. and is at 90 percent containment. No homes were threatened by the fire, although four residencies were temporarily evacuated along Forest Meadow Road and High West Distillery in Wanship Monday.
