WEST VALLEY CITY — Salt Lake County health officials closed a Mexican restaurant Thursday after finding more than 30 health code violations that they said presented an “imminent health hazard.”
Officials closed Los Molcajetes, located at 4031 W. 4100 South, after an inspector found 34 health violations, according to a report from the Salt Lake County Health Department.
The violations included spilled chicken blood on the interior surface of a reach-in freezer, single-use items being reused, hot water not being available in the restaurant and several foods on the counter measuring improper temperatures.
The report also stated “ready-to-eat” foods that were prepared on site and held more than 24 hours were not date-marked.
“The person in charge is unable to demonstrate knowledge of the relationship between foodborne illness and maintaining the food establishment in a clean condition and in good repair,” the report read.
In addition, the report cited the person in charge of the restaurant was “not ensuring employees are trained in food safety as it relates to their duties” and could not demonstrate the correct way to clean and sanitize utensils and food contact surfaces.
Los Molcajetes is the fourth Salt Lake County restaurant to close because of health violations since late April.
The restaurant will remain closed until health officials determine it is safe to reopen.
