SARATOGA SPRINGS — Police identified a mother of three killed in an early morning crash that injured eight others in Saratoga Springs Sunday.
Jacqueline Penaloza, 28, was in the front passenger seat of a sedan traveling south on Redwood Road near Pioneer Crossing about 12:35 a.m. when an SUV heading north collided with the sedan as it turned left, according to Saratoga Springs City spokesman David Johnson.
Penaloza's 17-year-old sister was driving the vehicle at the time but escaped without major injury, Johnson said. Penaloza died on scene.
Penaloza's mother and three children were in the back of the car, and all four were transported to a hospital. The mother is still in the hospital with a broken rib, and Penaloza's 3-year-old daughter is in the hospital with several injuries, Johnson said.
Police are still unsure whether the victim's 11-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son are still in the hospital.
There were three passengers in the SUV at the time of the crash. The SUV rolled over upon impact, but all the passengers were able to walk away without major injuries, Johnson said.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Editor's Note: A past article on KSL.com initially reported that Penaloza was 29-years-old at the time of her death, according to information from police. Penaloza would have been 29 in September.
