OGDEN — A worker at the American Nutrition manufacturing plant in Ogden died early Tuesday morning after he was fatally injured while attempting to restart a piece of machinery, officials said.

Raul Ortiz, 33, injured himself while operating an automatic bag palletizer, a machine that stacks bags automatically, about 3 a.m. and died soon after, according to American Nutrition President and CEO Bill Behnken.

"The entire American Nutrition family is deeply saddened at the loss of our dear associate, and we extend our most heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. American Nutrition is offering support to the family in the immediate aftermath of this tragic event," Behnken said in an emailed statement.

The company, which manufactures pet foods, is currently investigating the accident.
