TOOELE — Twelve baseball players from Tooele High School may face lewdness charges after police say they “inappropriately exposed themselves” on a school bus.

The students have not been formally charged, Tooele police Sgt. Tanya Kalma said.

Tooele police officials said Thursday that the 12 students exposed themselves on March 23 on their way back to Tooele from a baseball game in Salt Lake County. There were other students on the bus who did not participate, according to Kalma.

Police began investigating the incident on March 26, and concluded they should recommend lewdness charges, Kalma said.

The students involved were suspended from school and from the baseball team, according to Tooele County School District spokeswoman Marie Denson.

As of Thursday, the students had served their suspensions and were back in school, Denson said. They had also returned to the baseball team on a "probationary status," she said.

"School officials do not plan on issuing any additional disciplinary action for the students involved," Denson said.

She said district officials always involve law enforcement in school investigations and continue to work with law enforcement officials as needed throughout the investigations.

Calls to the Tooele County District Attorney were not immediately returned on Thursday.
