(KSL News) Several families are homeless tonight following two different fires in the Salt Lake Valley.

A two-alarm fire at an apartment complex near 600 South and 1700 West left six to 10 with out a home. The fire started around 9 p.m. on the top floor of the building.

Fire crews got the fire out quickly and everyone evacuated safely, but the fire caused a lot of smoke damage.

Meanwhile, a fire at a four-plex near 200 East and 3700 South left another six people without a home. Fire crews were called out around 1:00 in the morning.

It took firefighters about 10 minutes to knock the fire down. Investigators say it was started accidentally by a candle in the basement.

Damage to the four-plex is estimated at $100,000.
