SANDY — Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man who they say entered a bank with a gun, demanded money and fled, activating two dye packs on March 22.
Officers responded to a report of a robbery at the First Utah Bank, 11015 S. State St., about noon that day, Sandy Police Sgt. Jason Nielsen said Friday.
The man entered the bank and approached two tellers with a handgun, demanding money, Nielsen said. The tellers complied, and the man fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
However, Nielsen said the tellers also added two dye packs that activated after the man left the bank.

The man may have suffered burn injuries to his lower abdomen or pelvic area after the dye packs exploded, Nielsen added.
The man is described as being in his 30s or 40s with light skin. He is believed to be between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 11 inches and about 200 to 210 pounds. The man was wearing a blue rain jacket with a gray hooded sweatshirt underneath and gray-colored pants at the time of the robbery. He was also wearing yellow leather gloves with blue latex gloves over them and a black mask covering his mouth.

Nielsen said a red 2000 to 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe was observed “possibly casing the area” in the days prior to the robbery. The person driving the Tahoe is wanted for questioning in connection with the robbery.
Anyone with information about the man or the driver of the Tahoe is encouraged to call Sandy police at 801-568-7200 or the department’s anonymous tip line at 801-568-4636.
