TV LAND — There is a lot of television out there. How could you possibly sort through all of the network, cable and streaming options when there is so much incredible scripted content to watch?
Good news: you don’t have to. Here are our picks for a wide range of TV choices to fill your April. The list includes shows to start watching from the beginning, as well as new seasons that are available for shows you might already be watching.
Youth and Consequences
YouTube Red
This locally made teen drama is full of interesting tropes that have been slightly turned on their heads. Queen bee Farrah (Anna Akana) looks out for her own, the school is pleasantly diverse and interested in a social agenda. But don’t worry, it still has ridiculous fashion and eye-rolling dialogue.
Howard’s End
BBC1, Starz
This four-part adaptation of E.M. Forster's classic novel tells the story of two independent and unconventional sisters and the men in their lives. Starring Hayley Atwell of Marvel Cinematic Universe fame, the series sticks to the book for some delightful period piece goodness.
A Series of Unfortunate Events, Season 2
Netflix
Season 2 of the delightful adaptation of Lemony Snicket’s children's series will follow the next few books in the series. It picks up where season 1 left off, with Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire at a suspicious boarding school.
The Dangerous Book for Boys ===========================
Amazon Prime Video
A series loosely based on the book of the same title, "The Dangerous Book for Boys" features family and imagination at the forefront. As a mother and her three young sons cope with the loss of their dad, they are inspired by the book he left them to cooperate and come together.
Shows you should already be watching
"Jane the Virgin," Season 4 (Netflix): See what the Villanueva girls are up to now — from babies to marriage, to old flames, the fun never stops.
"New Girl," Season 7 (Fox, Hulu): The final season of the quirky and adorkable sitcom starts April 11. With a three-year time jump, there’s no telling what the former Loft Gang will be up to.
"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" (Fox, Hulu): Easily one of the most progressive and heartwarming sitcoms on TV, the season continues to tell great stories through great characters.
